A sample sales funnel might be structured like this:

1) A free product

2) A $10 - $17 product.

3) A $27 - $47 product

4) A $67 - $97 product

5) A $297 - $497 product

6) A $997 product

7) A $2995 product

8) A $5000+ product

Notice how as the subscriber becomes more comfortable with your products, using them and receiving value from your products, they will be willing to spend more and more money? Now, the nature of the sales funnel is that fewer and fewer people will buy each successively more expensive product over time.

Now, you might ask, why not just sell the person that is willing to spend $5000 the $5000 product right up front? The answer is simple: they wont spend that with you until they trust you. And they grow in trust as they buy more expensive and valuable products from you.

You can also vary this sales funnel by creating additional products at price points that are in between the suggested price points. Or you can change the price points all together just keep the concept of a sales funnel alive and well.

You can also have multiple products at each point in the sales funnel. You might have four $10 products, and three $47 products, for example.

The bottom line is, you want to use your sales funnel to create additional value to you and to the subscribers on your list, by offering more advanced products at higher prices.

How to Get Your E-mail Marketing Past Spam Filters and Firewalls and Into Your Customer's Inbox

E-mail marketing is a tremendously valuable tool for small and large companies that do business online. However, some companies find that there are a number of challenges that get in the way of their e-mail marketing campaigns.

In part, this is because many of your customers and prospects take advantage of Spam filters that have been built into their e-mail software. These Spam filters scan each message received for keywords that are often associated with scams or unsolicited marketing, and often direct any mail deemed questionable into a Spam, bulk or junk folder rather than the recipient's inbox.

Just as many e-mail programs have Spam filters, many Internet Service Providers (ISPs) block some e-mail messages. An ISP-content filter may be set to block all mail that is addressed to more than a certain number of recipients. Similarly, ISP blocks can occur for messages that contain images, excessive links, as well as words and phrases that are frequently used by spammers.

If too many of your company's e-mails are identified as Spam or deemed to be unsolicited, you may find your IP address the address from which you send e-mail on a blacklist. When your IP address is blacklisted, many of the e-mail marketing messages that you send will be returned to you undelivered.

Similarly, some ISPs have Greylists. Greylisting happens based on the way that the server sending the e-mail behaves rather than the content of the messages themselves. When your messages are greylisted, e-mails that you send will be bounced back; the e-mail will need to be re-sent. Though servers can be configured to re-send the e-mail automatically, if the server responds too quickly or too slowly, your e-mail marketing message may be identified as Spam.

In response to Blacklists and Greylists, many e-mail users are being asked by their ISPs to create e-mail Whitelists. A whitelist, in this sense, is an e-mail address book. If a sender is not included in the Whilelist, their e-mails will not be delivered to the user's inbox.

Content filters, Spam filters, ISP blocks, Blacklists, Greylists, and Whitelists: with all of these obstacles standing between your e-mails and your customers and prospects, it is important to learn more about e-mail marketing and e-mail deliverability.

What can you do to improve your company's e-mail marketing results? Here are 10 tips to boost e-mail deliverability.

1.Take the time to set up an opt-in mailing list for your e-mail marketing campaigns. Ask users to sign up to receive your e-mails, respond to a confirmation e-mail prior to receiving your e-mails and request that they add your company's e-mail address to their address book to ensure that they receive the messages that you send.

2.Consider running your e-mail marketing messages through a Spam filter to determine whether ISP and user content filters will reject your message.

3.Avoid using words like "free," the names of celebrities, words in all CAPS as well as many prescription drugs and inappropriate punctuation like multiple exclamation points. All of these are likely to trigger Spam filters and prevent users from even seeing the messages that you've worked to create.

4.Run your e-mail marketing campaigns through a hosted e-mail service. There are companies that are recognized as CAN-SPAM compliant; they automatically offer your recipients the chance to unsubscribe from your list, automate a variety of tasks related to e-mail marketing and even help to improve your e-mail marketing results by providing reports on the number of recipients who opened the e-mail and clicked on the links contained in it.

5.Work to build a database of quality addresses. When someone signs up for your list, ask them to submit their address twice this will help to weed out accidental misspellings. Avoid buying bulk lists of e-mail addresses as the mail that you send to them will be unsolicited.

6.Speak to the recipients of your e-mail marketing campaigns as individuals. Write your e-mail marketing messages as though they were being sent to a single person rather than a list; by avoiding too much sales speak and pressure to make the sale, you'll find that you get better results. Similarly, encourage the recipients to interact in some way through surveys and forms so that you can continue to send messages that appeal to your readers.

7.Keep the volume of your e-mail marketing campaign low. Though you may have a thousand addresses, sending 1000 e-mails at once is likely to make your messages look like Spam. Send your e-mails in smaller groups as opposed to all at once to avoid this problem.

8.If you receive a notice from an ISP that there are concerns about e-mail messages that you send, be sure to address them in a timely manner to avoid having your address land on a Blacklist or Greylist.

9.Ensure that the content within your e-mails is relevant to the products and services that your business provides; this will help you to keep subscribers and the marketing e-mails you send get more responses.

10.Send all of your e-mail marketing messages from the same address something that is especially important if your subscribers have Whitelisted your e-mail address.

No strategy will guarantee that your e-mails will reach all of your intended recipients; however, by following the above deliverability tips, you will be able to feel confident that the majority of your e-mail marketing messages will reach readers. When you improve the deliverability of your e-mails, you will be able to overcome many of the obstacles that prevent readers from viewing your e-mails and will improve your e-mail marketing results.

Baby Steps for Starting an Affiliate Program

Q: I want to set up an affiliate program for my business, but I really do not know where to start. We have a booking system that clicks from the main site to the reservation form which is on a separate URL. I am new to this affiliate stuff so any advice would be welcome.

A: The first thing you're going to need to figure out who is going to manage your affiliate program. That person will take the lead on all of the elements involved in developing your affiliate program.

There are a few routes you can go when it comes to affiliate program management. You can pull somebody internally at your company into the position, hire an experienced affiliate manager, or outsource to an OPM (outsourced program management).

If you go with a current employee, odds are they don't have a background in affiliate marketing. So you're going to need to get them up to speed ASAP.

I would recommend checking out Anik Singal's Affiliate Manager 1st Edition. This is a robust package of educational materials for affiliate managers. Anik also runs an Affiliate Manager Boot Camp to train affiliates.

Another training seminar is run by industry veteran, Andy Rodriguez. Andy runs the Affiliate Manager Certification Seminar and his site indicates that dates will be announced shortly for the next installment.

And the twice yearly Affiliate Summit conference features educational sessions for affiliate managers of all levels.

Hiring an experienced affiliate manager can be a challenge. The universe of talented and well networked affiliate managers is fairly small, so their compensation tends to be pricey.

Try listing a want ad in the typical places like HotJobs, Monster, Craig's List, as well as the affiliate manager job section on the AffiliateManager.net forum.

Outsourcing an affiliate program is an increasingly popular option. On the plus side, you can get some seasoned pros to run your affiliate program without the bother of a learning curve, vacation time, benefits, etc.

Of course, the outsourced affiliate manager won't be in your office, save for some occasional onsite visits. There are a number of companies that offer this service listed on the Affiliate Buyer's Guide.

Since you are considering working from home, there are a few little "things" you have to take into consideration before you start. Thinking about these little "things" before you start will save you plenty of frustration and headaches later on in the process.

One of the most important items to consider when starting any home business is where are you going to get the money to finance this endeavor? Isn't this one of the reasons you want to work from home...you have no money! I know that is why I started. My best advice here is to start out with a small budget.

Five dollars should do it. I know what you are thinking...it is that I am crazy. You are right...make it ten. How many yard sales have you had in the past? There are the toys the children looked at once or twice and decided they no longer needed. Not to mention apparel, husband "must have, no longer need" tools, household items no longer used, or haven't been used or seen in years. Our garages and basements are full of cash!

Where does the $10.00 come in? Why the placards you need to advertise your yard sale, silly!

That is exactly what I did when I started out. My husband never missed his one of 20 hammers, or the fishing pole with cobwebs on it.

I got off my subject just a little! Speaking of little...there are your children. I recently read an article in the newspaper where this gentlemen did a survey of parents who stay at home with their children. One of the questions he asked them was something along the lines of....why did they feel so much stress?

The overwhelming majority of parents felt children were the root cause. Now I have something to interject here...I raised four children, 1 girl 3 boys, and it was stressful. This I understand.

So back to children being the root cause of the parents' stress. When further questioned it was learned that the children were not the actual cause, it was all the interruptions to the childs daily routine. I am talking about telephones, computers, other adults, etc. All of the parents agreed that without these interruptions, there would be no stress.

If you have children, or a husband, in the house when you are trying to run you home business, and you are trying to do 50 things at once. You will become stressed! You will give up your dream of running a business from home.

The key to running a business from home, and taking care of your family is quite simple...make time for both. If your children are small, make a play area for them in your office area. You already know how to handle them when you are doing your other household chores. Working in your home office requires a bit more planning.

You will get so caught up in running your business that everything else will get pushed to the side, and you will get stressed. So will your family.

Work 1-2 hours a day, when starting. As you get more involved you will be able to figure out when the best time for you to work online.

Be patient, persistent, and have fun. Owning your own business is not a race, but a goal. Your goal. Your time. Your money (coming in, of course). You are the boss!

That's all I have to say for now, I have worked my two hours, time to play with the dogs, as my children are all adults, and take life too seriously.

Raising Money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to fund research and find a cure is a worthy and meaningful effort. Over 785,000 Americans have blood cancers, but thanks toyour dedication and support, we can find a cure. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research and providing education and patient services. The society has invested more than $486 million in research, $61.6 million in fiscal year 2006 alone.Research funded by the Society has led or contributed to advances such as chemotherapy, bone marrow and stem cell transplantation and new targeted oral therapies suc as Gleevec. What can you do to help?

This is a squidoo blog produced by Tina Vanderhoef who is participating in the Team In Training group Nike Womens' marathon, a race to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Tina must raise $4,200 to participate in this race, so she has set up a squidoo lens with lots of products you can purchase. All of her earnings will be donated to her spot in the marathon.

Most people join an affiliate program so that they will make some money by referring people to the products and services of the affiliate company.

This is, in fact, a great way to earn a really nice income.

However, if you JUST focus on this you are missing out on a great residual income stream.

Many affiliate programs are based on a 2-tier commission structure. This means you will earn a percentage for each sale that you bring in and a percentage for each sale that an affiliate that you referred brings in.

For example, you could earn a residual (ie you are not doing the work to earn this) 5%+ from the sales that your sub-affiliates bring in. This can really add up when you have a large base of sub-affiliates.
